Last weekend I grabbed the mountainbike to check out the local forest for the first time this year. Of course, I would have liked to ride there earlier in 2018, but in January or february there was a rather heavy storm hitting this area, which caused the city to shut down the local forests for more than a whole month. As soon as I got there I found out why they were forced to do so.
The storm changed the forest. Some of my favourite trails are now blocked by massive trunks, making the paths absolutely impassable. Other trails are just harder to locate, because the surroundings changed a lot: Trees are gone or trunks have been placed right next to it. Sometimes big amount of dirt has been shoveled right over the trail.
All this is nothing new. Everytime a storm crosses this area, I get to experience these things. Some of the changes may happen on purpose, others just happen. I know it’s kind of natural, things change. In the end, riding mountainbikes in the woods is still a lot of fun.
Of course, it is kind of unfortunate or tragic to see trails I’ve been riding for a long long time disappear or getting shut down. But the cool thing is, there are always new trails to discover and new challenges to adjust to. After all I think, this is just making me a better rider, right?
Have a good day!
